Research master programs train students to conduct independent investigation under academic supervision, culminating in a substantial thesis or research portfolio contributing to knowledge in the field.
Admission Requirements: An honours degree, or A masters degree by coursework with a research component, or An equivalent qualification from an approved university. Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in the same discipline with an average grade of Distinction (or equivalent) in the final year. OR Completion of an Australian Bachelor Honours degree (or equivalent) in a different discipline with an average grade of Distinction (or equivalent). PLUS Demonstrate English competency sufficient for study at masters level by providing evidence of one or more of the following: - completion of one or more degrees with English as the language of instruction and assessment, undertaken in a predominantly English-speaking context (within the last two years). Other Requirements: Postgraduate Australian Qualifications Framework qualification (AQF) - Successful completion of at least one year of full-time academic study completed in the standard duration, excluding approved intermission, and having completed these studies no more than two years prior to commencing studies at VU. Undergraduate Australian Qualifications Framework qualification (AQF) - Successful completion of at least two years of full-time academic study completed in the standard duration, excluding approved intermission, and having completed these studies no more than two years prior to commencing studies at VU. Study at an accredited institution in an English-speaking country where English is the language of instruction completed no more than two years prior to enrolment at VU. - Successful completion of at least two years of full-time academic study (at undergraduate degree level) completed in the standard duration, excluding approved intermission, and having completed these studies no more than two years prior to commencing studies at VU. Successful completion of at least one year's full-time academic study (at a Masters's degree level or higher) completed in the standard duration, excluding approved intermission, and having completed these studies no more than two years prior to commencing studies at VU. Study at an institution within a non-English speaking country, but where English is the medium of instruction and assessment for the whole institution, completed no more than two years prior to enrolment at VU. - Successful completion of at least two years of full-time academic study (at undergraduate degree level or higher) completed in the standard duration, excluding approved intermission, and having completed these studies no more than two years prior to commencing studies at VU. English Requirements: IELTS (or equivalent) overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). A score of not less than 92 with no section score less than 22 in the internet-based Teaching of English Foreign Language (TOEFL) test, or English proficiency equivalent. Other documented proof of English proficiency equivalent to the above. PTE: overall score 58-64, no section score less than 50 CAE: overall score of 176, no individual band less than 169 VU English – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 6): achieved.
